Slowdown, the reel story

Documentary filmmaker Tejas Deoskar gets candid about his upcoming short film Sunahari Raakh, which is based on the economic slowdown

Budding documentary filmmaker Tejas Deoskar, who is working on his 22-minute film Sunahari Raakh, speaks to MiD DAY about the plot of his film and his future plans.

What's the story of Sunahari Raakh?
Well, the film is about the upshots of recession in the rural areas. It's based on the life of a man who works in a factory that shut down soon after the economic downfall hits India. A time comes when he's left with no money to feed his family and that's when he starts doing some unethical work. However, his greed to earn more money lands him in a mess.

Was the story written keeping in mind the ongoing crisis?
A popular writer Anna Bhau Sathe had penned the story some 60 years ago. But his storyline was different. We have integrated the story with the slowdown as the main plot.
Actually, I had read the story when I was in school, but I never thought that I'd make a film on it some day.

Any plans to venture into Bollywood?
Of course. I'm already working on a project, but due to the ongoing slowdown, my finances have ceased. I'll start shooting soon after I sort out the budgetary issues.

How has your journey as a filmmaker been so far?
It has been a rollercoaster ride. There had been some joyous moments like the ones when I received five international awards for my short films and some gloomy ones when my projects go rejected. All in all, it has been a thrilling journey so far.
