The burglary of a smart phone worth Rs 53,000 from just outside an examination hall has sent students and faculty at a top city in to a tizzy.

The iPhone, belonging to a 20-year-old BMS student, was stolen even as she gave her exams. CCTV footage later showed a classmate of the student rushing in and out of the college washroom — incidentally where the victim’s bag, minus her cell phone, was finally located.

The incident took place on Friday at Vidhyavihar’s SK Somaiya college between 11 am and 1 pm. Speaking to Sunday mid-day, the complainant said, “According to exam rules, I had kept my bag near the classroom door. But after finishing my examination I found my bag was missing.”

The bag was later found in the ladies washroom on the fourth floor. “My examination hall was on the fifth floor” she said. College officials went through the CCTV footage and found a fellow student rushing in and out of the washroom at one. The police are currently investigating the case.
