Washington: The world's largest solar-powered aircraft, Solar Impulse 2 on Thursday completed the latest stage of its round-the-world journey. The plane took off from Dayton airport in Ohio and landed at Lehigh Valley airport in Pennsylvania, EFE news reported.

The Solar Impulse 2 prototype is the first solar-powered plane ever to make a trip around the world. The plane, piloted by one of its inventors, Bertrand Piccard, made a flight of 16 hours and 49 minutes from Dayton to Lehigh Valley, a distance of 1,044 km.

The plane flies without any type of fuel and is driven only by clean technologies. The project aims to raise awareness and generate support for cleaner technologies to preserve the environment from governments around the world.

Solar Impulse 2 is expected to continue its journey to New York, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Europe, North Africa and back to Abu Dhabi, where the world tour began on March 9, 2015.
