Over 300 people walked from Qutab Road Chowk till Municipal Corporation of Delhi zonal office in Paharganj on Tuesday

They are fighting the menace of bribery step by step. Around 300 traders from Sadar Bazar marched in solidarity against corrupt civic agency officials who have been taking huge amounts of money from them for several years.

Claiming they are inspired by Anna Hazare, the traders had earlier decided in their executive meeting recently (reported by MiD DAY on September 1) that they will stop giving bribe to the officials, specifically those from the department of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

On Tuesday, more than 300 traders walked from Qutab Road Chowk till the MCD office in Sadar Paharganj Zone. Interestingly, the office was closed till 12 noon and no senior employee was available inside.

"We started our march from Qutab Road Chowk, went to Telliwada road and then to 12 Tooti Chowk. Our final destination was Sadar Paharganj MCD office, but there was no one available. We had already informed them in advance that we would be coming to their office," said Paramjeet singh Pamma, vice-chairman, Federation of Sadar Bazar Trade Association (FESTA).

The traders finally gave a warning to the secretary of deputy commissioner of the zone that if no action will be taken within 15 days, they will directly go to the mayor with the complaint. "We have given that warning to the secretary, so that our message can be passed on to the deputy commissioner. If no action is taken, we will gherao the civic centre (MCD headquarters)," added Pamma.
