Areas between Mahalaxmi and Mahim will get no water today; Western suburbs to face 20% water cut for next three days

South Mumbai taps to run dry today

While residents of Mahalaxmi, Worli, Shivaji Park, and from Dadar (W) up to Mahim would not get water supply today due to ongoing work related to tunnel connectivity in Mahim, residents of South Mumbai and Western suburbs should brace for 20 per cent water cut for the next three days.

The disruption in water supply is attributed to the diversion work of the 1,800 mm diameter water pipeline on the Mulund-Goregaon Link Road that commenced yesterday night. Also, work of connectivity on Mahim tunnel is being carried out simultaneously and would go on till Wednesday night, affecting the water supply.

Civic appeal
The civic officials appealed to the residents of these localities to store water and cooperate with the BMC. BMC Hydraulic Engineer Ramesh Bambale said, “We have started connectivity work on the Marol-Maroshi-Mahim tunnel at various locations, and this work is a part of the project. It will reduce leakages and quality of water supplied will improve.” Worli resident Rashmi Vichare said, “It is a good thing if quality of water improves, or else it will only be an irritation for us.”
