The top-seeded Indian pair defeated Malaysia's number one pair, the Arnold sisters Delia and Rachel and then followed it up with a win over Australia 2, which comprises Sarah Cardwell and Christine Nunn.

The mixed doubles also brought good news for India with Joshna and Harinder Pal Sandhu being one pair and Dipika and Saurav Ghosal, the second seed, the other.

The reverse for India came in the men's doubles where Harinder Sandhu and Ramit Tandon lost two matches to Australia 1 and Colombia 1.
