SSC result for repeaters exam declared, students confused about admission

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) result for repeaters’ examination was declared on Tuesday. But instead of celebrating their achievement, these students worry about their admissions as final round of class XI online admissions’ process got over on Tuesday. While the state has declared a special round to be held for newly passed students, there is panic among candidates as there is no detailed information regarding the said special round.

As per the new policy, for all those who had failed state board examinations (SSC and HSC), repeat examination was held immediately after the results were declared. The objective of the new process is to ensure that these students do not waste an entire academic year to clear repeat examination. From Mumbai division around 7000 candidates have passed SSC from total of 39,994 candidates who cleared the examination across state. These students cannot approach colleges individually for admission, as class XI admissions have to be done through online centralized process as per court orders. This has led to much panic among students.

Amit Shinde who has passed with 64 percent score now is confused when will his college begin. "I failed in Mathematics in first attempt. But now I have cleared examination and aggregate marks are also good which mean I can hope for admission to a good college of my choice. But there is much confusion about admissions.”

Rahul Goyal, another candidate who had failed in Science ha snow passed the examination with 56 percent score. He is now making calls to the office of Deputy Director of Education to know when and where can he apply for admissions. “There is no information about it. For most of my friends colleges have already begun. Our admission has to be done through online process and it was last day of the said process today.”

When contacted Nand Kumar, secretary for school education, confirming about the special admissions round, he said, “Following court order class XI admissions have to be done through online process and hence a special round will be conducted for these students. There is no need for students to panic in as all will get admissions.”

Parents and academicians however fear more about loss of academics. Jivan Shinde, Amit’s father, said; “Now when will admissions start, when colleges will begin, how will children cope with the loss in academics are huge questions. We are only told to keep calm ensuring that everybody will get admissions. But when first rounds of admission have delayed so much how long will it take for this new special round is another question.”

Commenting on the confusion, a language teacher, Uday Nare, said, “Class XI admissions have already been delayed so much this year. Now there will be another special round. Meanwhile colleges have begun classes. Repeaters students are generally those lagging behind in studies, now how will they be able to cope with the academic loss? They will really have to take much extra efforts to be able to successful in the examination soon approaching as they enter college.”
