In his fourth consecutive term as a councillor, this senior politician has never used the civic body’s official Ambassador car, despite heading various prestigious committees of the corporation in the past.

Yesterday too, Karne preferred to come to PMC on his Hero Honda CBZ bike.

As the model code for upcoming general elections came into effect yesterday, Karne cannot use his official vehicle till May. But, he has agreed to use the four- wheeler from the civic body afterwards.

“I have been representing PMC as a corporator for the past 17 years. But, in this long tenure, I never felt the need to use a corporation vehicle,” Karne told mid-day.

Asked why he relented, he said, “Since my name having been declared as a probable candidate for standing committee chairman, my party leaders and supporters had started convincing me to keep my bike at home and to start using PMC’s official four-wheeler.” When contacted, senior NCP leader Ankush Kakde confirmed that he had requested Karne to use the official vehicle.

“As standing committee chairman, he will have to travel frequently. In the past, while heading other committees, the party has not forced him to use the official vehicle. But this time I convinced him for his own convenience,” Kakde said.
