Cases cracked by the CID are often forgotten, as there is no record maintained. But this is about change with the Maharashtra CID launching a book comprising 12 success stories, the first of its kind by a law-enforcing agency in the state.

The book Kaushalyapurna Tapas: Shodh ani Bodh (Skillful investigations: Search and Success)u00a0released yesterday by the state DGP S S Virk at the Centre for Police Research at Pashan will help improve the detction rate in crime, feel police officials.u00a0u00a0

Describing this book as an eye opener for any investigating agency, Virk said that the 12 cases mentioned in the book are the 'selective gems' and speak of the past glory of 100 years of the CID. "As there is only 11 per cent rate in detection of crime in Maharashtra, this book will certainly be of help to any studious police officer," he said.

The 150-page book has been published in Marathi and talks about double murders, rape, robbery and dacoities, cases of ransom, counterfeit note cases, abduction and even police custody deaths.

CID hopes that the book is not read by the police alone. "We are hoping that the book appeals to regular readers as well. The book will also be translated in English," said B G Gaykar, SP, CID, also the book coordinator. Under the SSP Yadav, the CID chief and his team, Gaykar completed the book in a record time of three months.

"Further editions of the books will be published. We are also planning to publish more books on investigation, which will include cases on cyber crime and terrorism," Gaykar informed.
