Gerrard, whose contract expires next summer when he will be 35, has been offered an extension but he is yet to agree on it. Rodgers stressed that there was no conflict between him and the Liverpool captain.
“I saw some things yesterday which were unfortunate about a rift between he and I, but if there were two words I would use to describe our relationship it would be honesty and respect,” said Rodgers.
The Northern Irish manager was also quoted as saying by the Guardian: “The latest is he has been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that is where it is at. In what he has done in his 16 years here he is a man who deserves the utmost respect and time to consider that.”
The Liverpool boss also believed that Gerrard was the best ever player to play in the Premier League and that he loved working with him.
“He is arguably the best player who has ever played in the Premier League, I have enjoyed every minute of working with him here and I hope that continues.”
