According to the police, a police patrolling team saw the accused commit the robbery and gave chase. Hakam who was fleeing on his motorcycle was finally nabbed after traversing a small distance.

The police officers said that when they brought him to the station, they realised that the accused is a drug addict, and since he did not receive money from his parents, he took to snatching chains. Police said that the accused had been arrested many times in the past. However, after he is released he goes back to his old ways.

“The accused mostly targets localities far away from his residence. He first recced the locality and then identified his target,” said Ravindra Patil, police inspector at Oshiwara police station.

Patil further stated that the accused is the son of a stockbroker, and is from a well-to-do family. “The parents of the accused know that their son is a drug addict, and have stopped giving him any money because they know that he will spend it on buying drugs. In order to pay for his drugs, the accused commits petty crimes,” added Patil.

Cops also stated that Hakam would snatch gold chains from elderly women walking alone, so that they wouldn’t be able to chase him. Police will produce the accused in court today.u00a0
