Cops say, the victim, who had a knee problem, and the accused, who is mentally unstable, were both receiving 'treatment' at a dargah where the incident occurred

When you’ve got to go to the loo, you’ve got to go. And beware the person who prevents a man from answering nature’s call. Here’s an episode to drive home the point. A woman was rushed to JJ hospital when a man bit off the tip of her nose at Sewri, after she overtook him to the restroom, forcing him to wait. According to the police, the accused is mentally unstable and was being treated at Sayed Ali Mira Datar dargah at Sewri. The woman had also come for healing to the dargah.

According to cops, Shardadevi Dinanath Yadav, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had arrived at the dargah along with her husband, seeking a cure for a knee problem. Anand Kashinath, a resident of Juhu, was also being treated there for his mental illness. On Monday around 8.30 am, Kashinath was handed some vibhuti (holy ash) by the dargah maulana. After this he felt like going to the loo.

Stopped in tracks
“As Kashinath was about to enter the restroom, Shardadevi went in ahead of him, which angered him a lot,” said Sunil Shivschare, sub-inspector at Sewri police station. “He tried stopping her but she did not listen to him and rushed in,” he added.

When Shardadevi returned after ten minutes, Kashinath allegedly dragged her and bit her nose, during which the tip broke off. The victim’s relatives and residents of the area gathered, separated the duo and tied up Kashinath with a rope. The relatives then took the piece of nose and a bleeding Shardadevi to JJ hospital.

“Later, Kashinath was also taken to the same hospital. Shardadevi has four children and they are all in Uttar Pradesh. Kashinath is a resident of Juhu, has a 14-year-old son and works as a contractor,” said Shivschare.

Kashinath has been booked under Section 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) by Sewri police. Doctors at JJ hospital treating Shardadevi say she may need cosmetic surgery.
