Indian biker stranded in Croatia gets unexpected help after opening Tinder

Ever thought a dating app could rescue you from a tight situation? Ask 23-year-old Rohith Subramaniam, a travel blogger by profession, who found help on Tinder while being stranded in the middle of nowhere, and he will tell you anything's possible. Rohith, who has been riding through Europe on his Royal Enfield 500 for the past six months, was denied entry into Croatia at the country's border thanks to his unkempt appearance. By the time he got back on the road - in a hurry -he forgot to refuel his tank, as a result of which, by around 10 pm, he found himself stranded on the side of the highway. Rohith's mobile phone had no network and his internet pack didn't have enough money left in it to make a phone call. "The closest gas station was miles away, and after making an SOS call to road assistance, I was told they would take at least another hour to get there," Rohith told mid-day, over email. "Dejected, I took out my phone, plugged in my earphones, sat on a rock and opened Tinder."

Right-swipe to the rescue
"As I was tired of waiting and wanted to kill time, I opened the Tinder app. I didn't go seeking help on Tinder but I must admit that it turned out to be a good decision," he said. "As soon as I matched with a girl [whose identity cannot be revealed], I started the conversation with a simple hi and she replied by complimenting my profile and asked me where I was and what I was up to. I confessed my predicament and she laughed at me! She said she would come and help me as she lived close by." About 20 minutes later Rohith connected with the girl and took her up on her offer of help, a car pulled over and his heart skipped a beat. "I wasn't sure how this would go. This was a stranger with whom I had had just two conversations before she came out to help me. She gave me the fuel to tide me over and we went to the nearest gas station to top up my tank. She bought me a sandwich and we spoke of my journey and about her life and we went our separate ways. She was truly one of the sweetest people."

A second 'first date'
"The next day, I asked her out to dinner. It was the least I could do for what she had done for me. We met in Zagreb at an Italian restaurant. Our conversations were about our mutual love of travel. She was planning a trip to Vietnam where I had already spent a month-and-a-half; I helped her with every possible route I knew and connected her with my friends there. After dinner, I took her for a ride on the motorcycle that started it all. She was a little shy during the entire journey as it was her first bike ride."

The road ahead
While the two have been in touch ever since, Rohit is now headed to Budapest. "But, I will definitely be going back to Croatia to meet her again," Rohith signed off.
