"The hope is to bring musicians with an Indian connect or musicians who want to visit the country the chance to interact with local musicians," says Mehroo Jeejeebhoy, chairperson, MMMF.

In 1996, Jeejeebhoy, who is a trained pianist, along with musicians Harvey De Souza and Ralph De Souza from London founded Sangat.

The aim of the foundation is to create an appreciation for Western Music, a goal that its founders hope to achieve by organising regular concerts, workshops and interactive sessions where audiences can meet and mingle with musicians.

Chamber Music enjoys a loyal audience in Mumbai, according to Jeejeebhoy, who shares that numbers have grown over the past few years. Evidence of its growing appeal can also be evidenced, in the fact that the Foundation now has over 500 students.

Jeejeebhoy hopes that musicians too have the opportunity to learn from each other. "Every musician knows that at the heart of music lies Chamber Music," she says, adding, "That's what makes music beautiful We have a wonderful balance between Modern and Classical music; it's going to be a treat for music lovers."
