Student dies after partying on her birthday

A 19-year-old student from Symbiosis College died after she allegedly consumed excessive alcohol while celebrating her birthday with her classmates and friends at a friend’s flat in Brahma Sun City at Wadgaon Sheri on Tuesday night.


Police are, however, awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of her death. “The deceased girl, who was in her Second Year of a Fashion Designing course at Symbiosis College, used to stay in the college hostel, and also worked part-time at a garment shop in Phoenix Mall located on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road,” said police sub inspector V T Patil of Yerwada police station.


He said that it since it was the girl’s birthday on Tuesday, her parents and brother arrived from Mumbai to celebrate, and booked a room at a hotel inWadgaon Sheri.


However, as the deceased wanted to celebrate her birthday with some of her classmates, she took permission from her parents and went to one of her friends flat where a birthday bash was planned.

Police said that during the party, the girl had consumed alcohol and after some time, started vomiting. “Her friends immediately gave her some lime juice and made her sleep in the bedroom,” said Patil.

The morning after
When the girl did not wake up in the morning at 9 am, her friends immediately rushed her to Ruby Hospital and subsequently informed her parents who were staying at the hotel. Doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Patil said that the exact reason of the death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem report, further stating it would be inappropriate to say anything right now.

A case of accidental death has been registered with the Yerawada police station. Director of the institute, Vinay Mundada said, “Since it was holiday on Tuesday, the college was closed and the girl had taken permission from hostel authorities to celebrate her birthday outside the hostel, as her parents had come from Mumbai to see her.”

Eyes donated
After the tragic incident, the family who came to Sassoon Hospital, during the postmortem decided to donate her eyes to the hospital. u00a0
