Management students, who successfully completed their internship programme with the city police, were handed out certificates by the Joint Commissioner of Police Ashok Dhivre. The programme, a unique initiative launched by the city police, entailed giving students a hands-on experience of beat marshalling and passport verification.

MiD DAY had first reported about this initiative introduced by the Commissioner of Police Meeran Chadha Borwankar.

"I was moved to know that the police have to spend 12 hours and at times more time on duty," Vrushali Mane, a management student, said.u00a0 "During our internship we were given opportunity to be with the police during night patrolling. We got to know how concerned and alert they were about safety and security." Mane said the exercise had changed her perspective about the police.

Another student said, "Common people refuse to share vital information with the police, if they do police's job they will know how important it is."u00a0

Besides, information about beat marshalling and passport verification, students were also explained the difference between non-cognisable and cognisable offences, and shown how an FIR is registered.

Another student who was overwhelmed after getting this opportunity said, "Even common man should get an opportunity to work with the police. It will help change their perspective," he said.DCP Dnyaneshwar Chavan (Zone III), ACP Vishnu Mane and Senior Police Inspector, Madhav Chitale were present at the function.
