Union minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife, who was found dead on Friday, was cremated at Lodhi crematorium in south Delhi yesterday
New Delhi: The remains of Sunanda Tharoor, wife of junior Human Resource Development minister Shashi Tharoor, were consigned to flames at Lodhi crematorium in south Delhi around 5 pm yesterday.

Sunanda’s father PN Dass hugged his daughter’s body one last time as he wept inconsolably, almost collapsing on the ground before family members standing by caught hold of him. The funeral pyre, made of sandalwood and showered with rose petals was lit at 5.21 pm by Shashi and Shiv, Sunanda’s son from her second-marriage.
The news of Sunanda’s death under mysterious circumstances in her room at The Leela Palace hotel came barely 24 hours after the couple declared they were “happily married”following public airing of tweets that hinted at an extra-marital relationship and alleged involvement of a Pakistani woman. Shashi, who complained of chest pain, was admitted in the same hospital a few hours after Sunanda’s death. He was discharged in the afternoon.
