Overhung describes themselves as a "superband of sorts" on their Facebook profile. That had us intrigued and we were surprised to know that Sujit Kumar, who wowed us as a part of Kickstart Freedom, is a member of this band as well. "We're into music full time. We don't have to rush off for a 9 to 5 job, so what else do we do but music and more music?" says Sujit.u00a0 
Overhung perform Classic Rock, Funk, Grunge and Metal songs
Overhung is a four-piece Mumbai-based band comprising of Howard Pereira (lead guitar), Sheldon Dixon (drums), Melroy Coelho (bass guitar) and Sujit Kumar (lead vocals).What's with the name, we ask him. "It's a play on the word "hangover" and it's also about our attitude to life," he adds.
While all the four musicians have been playing with various established bands over the years, it was natural that their paths crossed and they decided to jam. All it took was that one jam session and they already had a composition ready and it was recorded as well. That was On My Own and the next song that followed was Friend No More. Needless to say, they will be playing these tracks at their gig on Thursday.
Having already hit the studios a couple of jams later, the foursome have now decided to come out and play live. "It was a natural process. While we played with other bands too, we decided to jam and one thing followed another. We play different kinds of music. I do Classic Rock (60s and 70s) while Howard has a Blues background. Sheldon was a drummer with a metal band and Melroy was doing Funk. But somehow we gelled as a group and the music flowed like wine," recalls Sujit.
For their upcoming performance, they will play music from the early 90s, including songs by bands like Radiohead, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sound Garden, Spin Doctors, Beastie Boys and others. "We are also going Funk, which is something we haven't done for a long time. We'll do some rare Guns 'n' Roses songs as well," he promises.
The band is also known to enjoy performing live. "We're all about having fun on stage. We have as much fun backstage as on the stage itself," Sujit assures us.
The wide array of musical influences that exist within the band will be seen live onstage with their vast repertoire that cover Classic Rock, Funk, Grunge and even Metal. Punekaris can expect to have a blast.
