A suspended woman constable, who had alleged sexual harassment by her seniors, on Wednesday attempted suicide in the premises of Maharashtra Legislature.

Police said the condition of 25-year-old Amrita Akolekar was stable and she was recovering in the hospital.

Aurangabad-based Akolekar, who had earlier alleged having been sexually harassed by three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP), consumed pesticide in the Legislature premises.

She had reportedly come to meet Home Minister R R Patil.

Police are trying to find out what prompted her to attempt suicide. A case of attempt to commit suicide was registered against her, police said.
