Swiss tourist gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh

A 39-year-old Swiss tourist was gang-raped by around eight people near a forest in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh

Seven suspects have been rounded up for questioning, police said.

The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. near Sewda road where the woman and her husband, who had come to India on an adventure tourism trip three months ago, had set up camp for the night.

The couple were on their way on bicycle from Orcha in Tikamgarh district and were planning to visit Agra in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh to see the Taj Mahal. They had stopped near Sewda road.

The woman's husband told police that four people committed the rape while the rest restrained them.

The victim filed her complaint at the Datia civil lines police station. Police searched the area and took seven people in custody for interrogation. Police sources said that an FIR had been registered.

Rape was confirmed in the medical test conducted at the medical college late in the night.

The tourists told police that their camera, Rs.10,000 in cash and a laptop were missing.
