Chennai: In a bizarre incident, a lower court judge in Erode served a memo to his office assistant for failing to wash undergarments at his residence and retorting to his wife in an arrogant tone. Subordinate Judge D Selvam of Sathyamangalam court signed and issued the memo on February 1.

Also, you retorted in an arrogant tone when questioned about your actions by the officer and his wife."

Replying to the memo, the assistant wrote (on February 4): "I humbly submit that I will guard against any lapses in the future and undertake to do my duties properly. I request the disciplinary action against me may please be closed."

Confirming the incident, T Senthil Kumar, general secretary of Tamil Nadu Judicial Employees Association, said they will file a petition before the registrar general of Madras High Court and Justice S Nagamuthu, the High Court judge who heads administrative affairs of judicial employees in the state, seeking appropriate action in the matter.
