The Indian contingent at the 18th Maccabiah Games ensured the tri-colour was flying at the recently -concluded competition in Israel.

The Indian contingent at the 18th Maccabiah Games ensured the tri-colour was flying at the recently -concluded competition in Israel. The Games are the 3rd largest games in the world and bring together 7000 Jewish athletes from 60 countries.

The Indian contingent comprised of 14 cricketers and two table tennis players. The cricket team, under the leadership of Swapnil Penkar, a former railways player, lost in the the final.

Bensiyon Songarvkar, a first-class player from Saurashtra was the star of the tournament being awarded the Man of the Series.

This is the first time since the inception of the Maccabiah Games in 1920 that an Indian cricket team has secured a medal and deputy head of delegation, Ezra Mozes now wants Team India to bring back at least one gold besides a number of silver from the 19th edition of the Games to be held in 2013.
