A 19-year old's dream to drive around in a car with a beacon like IAS and IPS officers ended with a rude shock when he was arrested on Thursday night by the Oshiwara police during a nakabandi

Identified as Alnoor Ahamad Surani, the accused is a first-year student of a Bandra-based college and the son of a developer. Surani and his friend, who had given him the beacon, were driving around in the night in a luxury car belonging to Surani’s father.

The Oshiwara police were holding a nakabandi at Yamuna Nagar area in Lokhandwala to catch hold of a chain snatcher. Senior police inspector Dilip Rupwate of Oshiwara police saw the rashly driven car with the beacon light approaching around 8.30 pm. He grew suspicious and stopped the duo.

Surani resides in Carnation building opposite Aagakhan Baug in Yari Road, Verosva, Andheri (West). During interrogation, he told the cops that his friend had got the beacon light and he was trying to copy the way IPS and IAS officers were driven around the city.

“During interrogation, Surani said that he had just come out for a drive. We have arrested him under section 279 for rash and negligent driving and 108/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. His friend was asked to leave after taking his details,” said Rupwate.
