The police suspect a big racket in stealing murum has been operating for the past few months.

JCB, truck seized
The police recovered a JCB and a truck from the suspect. Not working alone
The officer said Shete revealed he had come to take murum from the open area of PCNTDA and that he had been sent by a person named Saste, a resident of Moshi. “When our team reached the place, the other people who had come to steal murum had already fled, leaving a JCB and a truck at the site,” Pawar said. “We have seized the JCB machine worth Rs 22 lakh and the truck worth Rs 10 lakh.”

Regular practice
A few residents of the area also complained that for the past several months some people were sneaking into the open space at night with big JCB machines and trucks to steal murum.  The police said investigations were on to catch the big fish involved in illegal murum excavation in the area.
