Amy Winehouse brought Soul back in fashion that was missing from the British music scene since the sixties. Singers like Adele and Duffy's songs are inspired byu00a0 Amy's music today. Soul was a very popular form of music in the early 60s even before the Beatles and Amy brought it back to pop music and trailblazed her way into the scene and set some high standards which is missing in pop music today.u00a0

Her music and lyrics were heartfelt and didn't sound pretentious even though she didn't really do much of song writing. It was the way she performed that made all the difference. In a sea of cookie cutter pop stars, she maintained her individuality with her gothic eye make up which was a throwback to the 60s. Even when she was caught not looking her best or semi nude by the paparazzi, she would still have her bouffant in place.
She didn't really make enough music. It was just the two albums: Frank and Back to Black. But my personal favourite is the track Back to Black which is what she was all about rather than Rehab which is a more popular track.

I was fortunate enough to watch her perform live in Europe a few years ago. It was a memorable experience. She was so skinny and tiny yet her presence was enough to light up the stage. Her voice had a timeless quality that transcends demography and culture. It hadu00a0 tremendous life and was her identity. Amy's music had a soul that no machine can create. My favourite track of hers is Back to Black.

We were at a gig on Saturday night when we heard the news. Keeping aside all the controversies surrounding her, she was known for her free-spirit. Her music speaks of thatu00a0 and the tussle between what people expected of her and who she wanted to be. She has left behind a legacy of music that will always be remembered. Our favourite track of hersu00a0u00a0is Rehab.
