Peak hours are not getting any easier and daily commute is far from being comfortable. At a time like this, with the need for staggered office hours becoming increasingly important, mid-day profiles a few workplaces in Mumbai that have successfully adopted flexible working hours.

HR head Beena More says, "Not only do we have flexibility in work timings, but there is also the option of working from home in certain situations. It is important that the company understands the different situations of employees and allows them some liberty. It is about having trust in one's employees. When you trust them, they will do their bit and honour the working hours."


"The company's perspective is work- and result-oriented. You want to make that extra effort when the focus is on your performance, delivery and what you have worked on, instead of how many hours you've put in," said Amit Bidaye, an employee.

At this e-commerce company specialising in garments, it is all about completing the given work and not the number of hours spent in office. Founder and CEO Ekta Agarwal shares, "We have a simple policy. Because there needs to be a fixed opening time for the office, we have set it at 10.30 am, but beyond that, it's up to the employees and the time they take to finish the given tasks. Once an employee finishes his/her work, s/he is free to leave. Some come early and leave early, some come in late and leave late. We also have a person who loves to work after hours, because, according to him, he is a night person.

"We deal in ethnic clothing, and hence, creativity is very important in employees, so that they are able to consult with clients. Adopting flexible hours has shown effective results and ensured that employees are unburdened. We also allow staff to work from home. At the end of the day, it's all about results."
