Students of Cathedral and John Connon failed to turn up for their MSSA-Nike inter-school football game against Bright Fellowship International School yesterday.

The next game which was scheduled at 1 pm, saw Fellowship School (Grant Road) give their match against Gopi Birla School a skip. Probably, the swine flu threat came into play.

Finally, there was some action at the Azad Maidan at 2 pm. The boys who seemed barely bothered of catching the virus were the lads of Scholar High School (Colaba), who have returned to inter-school competition after three years. They won their first match against Lady Engineer (Tardeo) by a 2-0 margin. Aayush Gandhi and Mohit Waghela netted one each.

Coach Dinanath Mayura said: "Parents and school authorities motivated these kids to play. Nothing much can happen by sitting at home. We are extremely happy to win our first game."

However, parents were reluctant to send their kids for the game initially. "My mother only granted me permission to play when I started pestering her. As I was leaving for the ground, she urged me to to win the match and score some goals. This was my first game in inter school football and I am delighted I could score," Aayush said.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
