This Fantastic Friday

If you haven't planned your weekend, then take your pick, catch this play or this band; team it with some fashion and make your weekend as colourful as it can get

Fairytales, so true

Masrah might have been hibernating for quite some time now, but to make up for their absence, they're back this weekend with Middle of Somewhere.

We've watched them, loved them and can't seem to get enough of them, but Masrah seems to be quite like the picky star, with performances usually limited to once a year. We're not complaining however, because every time they do perform, we're blown away and just wait for the next performance to happen.

This time, get ready to watch a fairytale like scenario unfold in Middle of Somewhere, a play that stitches together several narratives based on a reality we all know as Bangalore.

Watch the tri-narrative unravel as a fictional story of Akeli in her struggle against the overpowering forces of Dhuan as she tries to save the last stronghold of everything good -- Birangi. Into this interesting story is interwoven the second narrative -- the stories of the actors, their experiences, their joys, their fears, and their sense of loss and the third narrative -- life in a city.

What makes these performances even more interesting is the brilliant chemistry the actors in Masrah share. Being friends in real life -- they share energies, are comfortable in each others' spaces and often bring about a sense of a complete organic whole, while telling us their tales through the preferred medium of theatre.

Catch them as they perform this wonderful journey through emotions, fiction and an idea we call Bangalore...

Fashion fiesta

Go on a haute lane this evening with Rajdeep Ranawat's Resort and Diffusion Collections at the Haute Compote Bloom

We haven't seen his work before, but we surely have heard a lot about him everywhere! Inspired by nature and deep-sea life, Rajdeep's latest Resort line is surreal with focus on motifs from the sea. Be it the feminine mermaid or the starfish, algae, ferns and tiny weeds that reappear all through the line -- this collection in blues and greens is sure to catch your fashion eye.

The diffusion/couture collection is however more Indian in its theme. Created around the theme of The Travelling Bride, look out for -- oriental peonies, pansies, tiger lilies and dancing ladies and embroideries, chiffon patchwork, silk threads and sequins. You can also look forward to crystallized Swarovski elements in Prune, Petunia, Viridian, Buttercup, Flamingo pink and shades of gold. A first in this newest series aptly titled Haute Compote Bloom, this event is open to all, so hurry and book your seat.

With no limitations

These guys know how to make the most of a Friday night and they're bent on doing what they love doing the most -- playing anything they like (pic right)

A group that began in 2005 playing a mixture of genres, today sticks by that very mantra and plays anything that catches their discerning ear. Listening to the band Old Jungle Saying is like indulging in a melting pot of punk rock, alternative rock, pop, funk metal and so much more and what's more, they're unplugged!

Sandeep Madhavan, a member of the band says, "The night is going to be all about foot tapping and high tempo music and we're sure everyone will have fun." With a variety of originals and covers, the band will also play some of their brand new songs. Their music is influenced by popular groups such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Infectious Grooves. Catch them live in performance and have a blast

At: BFlat Bar,
Indiranagar 100 Feet Road
On: February 26, 8.30 pm
Entry Rs 200
Call: 99808 21940
