Teen cricketer Pranav Dhanawade says inclusion of his 1009-run feat in CBSE school textbook is added motivation for him to work harder on his game

This is a fresh chapter in my life: Record-breaking teenager Pranav Dhanawade

Pranav Dhanawade, who scored a record 1009 runs in a schools cricket match two years ago, was in for a shock recently when he learnt that his story has been included as part of the Central Board of Secondary Education's syllabus (CBSE) for the next academic year.

In January 2016, Pranav, then a student of KC Gandhi School, Kalyan, made headlines after scoring his world record knock against Arya Gurukul, Kalyan, in an inter-school U-16 Bhandari Trophy match. Recently, he learnt that his story has made it to the CBSE Board's Hindi Class III text book.

Pleasant surprise
"This is totally unexpected. I never even thought that my feat would become a lesson in a school textbook. When a friend called to inform me about it, I was shocked. I immediately went through the book. The story is spread across two pages along with my photos after achieving the record. The book is not yet available to students as it is part of the next year's syllabus. Currently, it's only available for teachers who need to prepare for next year," Pranav, 18, told mid-day yesterday.

The teenager, who has previously felt the burden of the record pulling him down at times, believed this is an added motivation for him to work harder on his game. "This is like a fresh chapter in my life. It is a huge motivation for me to not just upgrade my playing level but to also re-focus on my goal because after reading my achievement, young children will try to emulate me," said Pranav.

"It's time now for me to forget that record and just focus on improving my game. Presently, I'm working on my fitness in preparation for the Kanga League. Sulakshan [Kulkarni] sir has been helping me a lot with issues like my stance and grip" he added.

Forget the record, says Sulu
Former Mumbai coach Kulkarni felt Pranav has the potential to do well but must be patient. "He needs to start from scratch. He must forget that record and work on the basics of the game to be able to compete at a higher level. He needs to be patient and ignore what people say about him. There is some improvement in his game, but he needs to work on some technical aspects," said Kulkarni.
