Health and beauty consultant Dr Vasudha Kolte does not mind going the extra mile to help the needy
By profession she is a health and beauty consultant, but Dr Vasudha Kolte does not limit herself. Her heart is as noble as her profession. This doctor has selflessly saved countless lives from human beings to animals since her childhood, without expecting any awards or recognition.
Dr Vasudha Kolte has saved countless lives through her selfless work.
It all started at the tender age of five when on her way to school she spotted a pregnant dog being hit by stones by some passersby. Immediately she went home, asked her mother for money and rushed the dog to the nearest veterinary hospital.
Dr Kolte was born and brought up in Mumbai and is a hard-core altruist by nature. She blames it on her genes for being one as both her parents have always been involved in such philanthropic activities. She recalls an incident in her childhood, when a poor and hungry person was loitering outside their house. Her father took him in and gave him some food.
Dr Kolte says that not only her but also her brother is involved in a lot of social activities. On one of their weekends they were in Gorai beach when they spotted two children drowning. Without caring for their own lives both she and her brother went ahead to help the two victims.
Dr Kolte has always been inspired by figures such as Rani Laxmibai, Kiran Bedi and Mother Teresa. Their works have always encouraged her to go ahead and help the destitute.
She has also inculcated these habits in her daughter who is a student of Class IV. Dr Kolte sends her daughter to a school for handicapped children because she wants her daughter to learn that everyone is equal.
When asked if she has got any recognition for her work, she says: "I don't do services because I am hungry for awards but because I believe in humanity and selfless service. I have always helped any needy person even if it is beyond my ability, capacity or reach."u00a0
One of the most challenging tasks for her was when she went to help people in tribal areas and had to save the life of a pre-mature baby.
Last month, Dr Kolte spotted a stray dog which had taken shelter on a window pane of a flat located on the third floor of her society. It was raining heavily and no other resident was willing to rescue the dog. Dr Kolte called the fire brigade and ensured that the dog was rescued after a three-hour effort.
