This party season, go pop with your eyes

Who says you have to dress like the weather? As the nip in the air intensifies and you pull those grey woollens out of the closet, let your eyes do some talking. We roped in a make-up artiste to show you how to work sunny orange, bright red and summery tangerine into your look for the party season

"Around the world, make-up is now being looked at as a form of art and the face as a canvas," says Sarika Motiani at heru00a0 Khar studio. "This winter, we've seen people infuse colour into the face to brighten up their look."

She's right. Although one would think oranges and reds are colours of the summer and blues and greys are winter colours, everyone from Christian Dior and Armani Prive to Chanel and Mac has showcased orange eyes or red lips on the runway.

Another interesting thing to note is the double eyeliner look. Motiani explains, "The idea is to accentuate the eye. It is a modern take on '60s fashion. While the single eyeliner has been around for a while, the double eyeliner adds drama and makes a statement."

Given that it's party season, one wants to look and feel their best. Colours that pop not only garner attention but also lift a person's spirits and confidence.

As Motiani points out, "When you first look at a person, you notice their eyes and lips. It only makes sense to play them up and make a striking impression." We agree.

Summer pop
DIY EYES: Moisturise over and under the eyes. Use a tangerine colour and spread it all over the eye socket with your fingertips, taking it all the way to the brow bone. Contour the eye with a slightly darker shade to give it definition. Smudge the colour with a smudging brush very lightly under the eye.
DIY FACE: Stroke a peach and pink blush in an upward motion on the cheeks to add youth to the face.
DIY LIPS: Finish with lining the dark corners of the lips and filling the lips with coloured lip balm.

Golden double
DIY EYES: Use a good eyeliner brush. Add a little water to a black cake liner. With the brush, line according to the shape of the eye, thicker around the middle, thinning as you go outside. Add on a glitter liner above the existing liner. Follow the shape of the lining just stopping a little short of the outside.
DIY FACE: Dab on a peach and pink blush and dash it up with a cheek tint to give it sheen.
DIY LIPS: It is very important to line them with a red lip pencil. Fill in the lips with a red lipstick. Powder around the lips as red tends to bleed while moving or talking.
