MiD DAY had reported on Friday that at least 100 streetlights in East of Kailash were non-functional. MCD has now fixed the problem

Just a day ahead of the festival of lights, MiD Day has given the residents of East of Kailash one more reason to brighten up their days. The streetlights of the area, which were not working for nearly a month, have finally started functioning.

Apparently, three blocks in the area-D, E and F-were the worst sufferers of the problem. "Some people from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi came to the locality and fixed the lights. We are so glad that the street is at least visible now," said Karan Aggarwal, resident, D Block. The move has come as a boon for the women of the area.

the situation to both MCD and power discom BSES, but they were just
passing the buck.

Female commuters rejoice
"Earlier, it was difficult to walk down even to a general store as the dark street seemed unsafe. But now there is no such fear," said Sakshi Aggarwal, a CA student and a D block resident.

Shweta Sharma, another resident, said "My coaching classes used to continue till 8 pm. As the lights were not working, one of my family members had to come to pick me up. Now, however, I can come back on my own."
MiD DAY had reported on Friday, October 21, that at least a 100 streetlights in the area were not been functioning for the last 20 days. The residents' welfare association (RWA) had complained regarding this to both the local power distribution company BSES, as well as MCD.

"Finally, they have taken some action. The streetlights in all three blocks have started working. It's like a Diwali gift for all of us," said KK Mittal, general secretary, residents' welfare association (RWA), E-block, East of Kailash.
