Thousands of yogis gather in Time Square
Thousands of people stretched and posed on the streets of Times Square in a massive hot yoga practice that lived up to its name as temperatures in New York City climbed to nearly 100 degrees
More than 14,000 people gathered on Wednesday to lay out on yoga mats and find their inner peace to celebrate the longest — and possibly hottest - day of the year with the summer solstice.
Those who joined the enormous gathering were challenged to block out the noise and congestion of one of the world’s most famous intersections and focus on their tranquility amid heat that was forecast to break records.
The mammoth crowd of yogis that turned out created the world’s largest bikram yoga class. Vehicles buzzed nearby the group as they did their sequences along Broadway between 42nd and 47th streets. Four classes were held throughout the day, each running about an hour and a half long.
