Two women and a two-year old girl were brutally murdered by unidentified person or persons, and the police say the motive behind the shocking crime could be a botched robbery attempt

The incident took place at Panchratna society in Udaybaug on B T Kawade road and came into light late yesterday evening. The deceased were identified as Shobha Mhasalkar (50), her daughter-in-law Archana Mhasalkar (25) and 2-year-old granddaughter Kimaya Mhasalkar.


Madhusudan Kulkarni, a 65-year-old neighbour living of the same floor was also attacked with sharp weapons.The Mhasalkars lived on the ground floor while Kulkarni lived alone in the flat opposite theirs. The police said that Archana’s husband, Vishal, who works in a private firm returned at 8.30 pm and was shocked to find his mother, wife and daughter in a pool of blood and alerted the police control room. Kulkarni was also lying bleeding in his flat. Household material was scattered on the floor and the police are investigating whether any valuables were stolen.


Kulkarni was taken to hospital and undergoing treatment at a private hospital.


“Prima facia, it looks like a robbery attempt, as the household material was scattered on the floor. It it is difficulty to say that the murders took place with the intention of robbery,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Sanjeev kumar Singhal. He said the unidentified people used sharp weapons and slit the throats of the deceased.u00a0
