Three jail inmates escape, prison staff suspended

Three inmates escaped from the district jail after which the entire prison staff on duty at the time of the incident has been suspended with immediate effect, official sources said here today

Three inmates, including one who was serving life sentence, escaped from the prison by scaling walls with the help of a pipe and rope late last night, Jail Superintendent R N Pandey said. 

He said that the escaped inmates included Shakir Ali, who was serving life sentence in a murder case. Pandey said that two other inmates, included Rakesh alias Tandoori detained in a rape and murder case, and Sanju detained in a rape case.

He said that the incident came to light this morning when jail staff found ropes dangling from the walls and counting of inmates was done. He said that senior officials and police have been informed about the incident.

Meanwhile, an official spokesman in Lucknow said that the entire prison staff, including jailer, which was on duty at that time has been suspended.
