In an accident that took place on Saturday night, a group of four, who were allegedly intoxicated, injured three
people and damaged several vehicles as they drove off from Asudkhana Chowk to Narpatigir Chowk in Canton-ment.

The Cantonment police arrested Mominpura resident Mohsin Siraj Mujahid (23) in the case. According to the police, Mujahid and his three friends, including two girls, were on their way to MG Road from Ghorapadi Peth. Mujahid, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, knocked Prakash Jain in Asudkhana Chowk and later injured Deepak Suhasane and Sandip Barve, as he drove towards Narpatgir Chowk.

Local MNS supporter Deepak Bahirat, who was witness to the incident, said, "Mujahid was driving in a rash manner; my friend Gopi Kurwal also tried to stop him."

Bahirat said  about 300 people had gathered at Narpatgir Chowk to beat up Mujahid, but he was saved because the police reached the spot. The Cantonment police arrested him under Sections 279 (negligent and rash driving), 337 (causing hurt), 427 (damaging property) of the Indian Penal Code. He has also been charged under appropriate sections of the Motor Vehicle Act for drink-driving.

Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Korde said, "Mujahid was produced before the court and was later released on bail." Korde said the three injured were discharged from hospital after treatment.
