Students of girls' military school near city make it as defence officers

Pranita More, Shraddha Jagtap and Vaishnavi Tokekar have a special reason to celebrate Republic Day this year. For the three who were students of the Rani Laxmibai Girls' Military School, this is their first Republic Day as defence officers.

More, Jagtap and Tokekar are from the first batch to have passed out of the 13-year-old Rani Laxmibai Girls' Military School.

More went on to complete her BSc and cleared the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) and the Services Selection Board (SSB) tests. She has been commissioned as a lieutenant in the army at Chennai after completing her training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) there recently.

"I am now settled in the Air Defence Wing in Chennai," she said.

Jagtap, who also cleared the SSB, is an officer in the navy.

Tokekar completed her BA and went through CDSE and SSB and has now been commissioned at Hyderabad as an officer in the Indian Air Force.

"It is the training and hard work which we learnt in our school made us to achieve our goals," Jagtap said.

Shraddha Walimbe, principal of the school, said, "I hope this is just the beginning and many more like them are able to serve the nation. We provide the girls orientation training, which makes them perfect for even the civil
services."
