Based on CCTV footage, Pune Rural Police have arrested three youths from Ahmednagar district in connection with the death of a 28-year-old during the caste clashes near Koregaon Bhima on January 1. Rahul Phatangale, a mechanic, was on his way back home on his bike, when he was caught in the riot-like situation near Sanaswadi area. According to police sources, he sustained injuries caused by stone pelting and later, succumbed to his wounds. Consequently, the Shikrapur police filed a case of murder, unlawful assembly and rioting.


Speaking to mid-day, a senior police officer said, "Based on CCTV footage of the riots, we zeroed in on three youths, all from Ahmednagar. We will not be revealing the identities of the accused keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the case." The officer added that more arrests would be made, soon.
