What is your take on the emergent trend of metallic jeans/trousers? Is it here to stay?
Metallic jeans are a great way to wear the punk/grunge trend this season, and can look great if styled well. As with any trend, it will have its ups and downs.
What can be paired with metallic jeans/trousers?
Almost anything. If you’re in a daring mood, you can even wear them in the day, with a flowery blouse or a pastel top. To be safe, wear it with a black top, T-shirt or shirt for a night out, with heels and minimal jewellery.
What is a complete no-no with metallic jeans/trousers?
There are no extremes,it depends on how it is styled.
Is it a good option for men?
Not really. Unless you’re a Bollywood star who’s wearing them for the purpose of a song-and-dance shoot in a masala movie.
What fabric is used to create metallic trousers?
The metallic effect can be achieved on a variety of fabrics through several techniques. There is foiling, where metal foil is stuck on top of the fabric with a layer of fabric glue and set with extreme heat. Then, there is lurex yarn, which can be woven into the fabric itself. There is also brushing, where metallic-coloured polymers are brushed onto the fabrics much like paint on a canvas, but this happens on huge machines, on an industrial scale. Besides, there are different kinds of weaves that allow the yarn to shine highly; for example, the satin weave. These weaves, when done in metal-coloured yarns, like silver or golden-coloured silk, can provide the desired effect.
