Tine Baun, Mark Zwiebler take Mumbai atop IBL table
Malaysian World No 1 Lee Chong Wei not only gave Mumbai Masters a perfect start with his win over Daren Liew in the opening singles match yesterday, but also returned to team up with Tine Baun and win the mixed doubles to make it 4-1 for the hosts at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium.
However, credit for Mumbai’s win must go to Baun and German Mark Zwiebler, who won their respective singles matches to give Mumbai a 3-1 lead and take them atop the IBL points table.
Baun first beat Arundharti Panthawane 21-11, 21-13 in the women’s singles, after which Zwiebler fought hard to get the better of B Sai Praneeth 18-21, 21-10,
11-9. Before Zwiebler’s win though Delhi’s Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Hoeng beat Mumbai’s B Sumeet Reddy and Manu Attri 14-21, 21-15, 11-7 in the men’s doubles to pull one back for the visitors.
Finally, Wei and Baun eked out a fine 21-18, 15-21, 11-5 win over V Diju and Prajakta Sawant.
