Argument over toll waiver for MLC Sanjay Patil takes ugly turn at Khed-Shivapur

Toll plaza vandalised after MLC assaulted by staff

Nationalist Congress Party MLC Sanjay R Patil and his driver were allegedly manhandled at the toll plaza near Khed-Shivapur by seven toll booth employees on Monday morning. After the incident, several supporters of Patil arrived in a truck and vandalised the toll plaza.

The seven employees of the toll plaza were arrested.

The police said Patil was on his way to Mumbai from his hometown Sangli when he had an argument with the plaza staff over toll payment.

Police Inspector Sanjay Bothe of the Rajgad police station said Patil’s right hand was hurt in the scuffle that followed and the side mirror of his car was damaged.

“On Monday, Patil was on his way to Mumbai. When the car reached the Khed-Shivapur toll plaza at 9 am, an employee at the toll booth demanded toll tax from Patil’s driver. Patil told the employee he was a Member of the Legislative Council and asked him to waive the toll. The toll employee started abusing Patil and his driver and later, with the help of other six employees, allegedly manhandled them,” Bothe said.

As soon as the news spread, several supporters of Patil arrived in trucks and motorcycles and ransacked the toll plaza.

“We have taken the numbers of the trucks and the motorcycles and soon the hooligans will be nabbed,” Bothe said.u00a0
