Trans-harbour link: 39 consortia approach MMRDA for construction

In a major development in the ambitious Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link project connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva, the Request for Qualification (RFQ) that Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited for the construction of this longest sea bridge in the country, has received an overwhelming response.

Metropolitan Commissioner UPS Madan said, “We have received an excellent response for the MTHL RFQ.” 11 consortia have come forward for package one, 11 for package two and 17 for package three. MMRDA had invited RFQ for the MTHL in May.

The scope of work in package one includes construction of 10.380 km-long bridge span across Mumbai Bay and Sewri Interchange, package two includes construction of a 7.807 km-long bridge portion across Mumbai bay and Shivaji Nagar interchange, and package three includes construction of a 3.613 km long viaduct and interchanges that will connect state highway 52 and 54, and national highway 4B close to Chirle in Navi Mumbai.

Sources from MMRDA told this newspaper that one of the companies interested in construction is the J–Kumar Infra project limited which has been facing inquiry in the BMC road scam.

According to sources, the other reputed companies which have shown interest in the construction of the bridge include RInfra, Tata, Gammon India, NCC, and AFCONS. The international companies which have shown interest include Daewoo and OHL.

Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding the Rs 18,000 crore MTHL project.

The MTHL project was also discussed between MMRDA and the Japanese government during the Make In India week at BKC in the month of February.
