The Garden City may get a makeover in the days to come, if the new mayor has her way.
Claiming that the city has lost its sheen to IT, BT and BPO's in the recent past, Mayor Shardamma proposes to have all fountains and ornamental ponds in parks replaced by green areas through planting of saplings and shrubbery to increase the green canopy.

"Once known for its greenery, the city has lost its beauty to buildings and other construction projects," Shardamma said while unveiling plans to put the Bangalore back on the green track.
Lawn areas in parks will henceforth be converted for growing trees instead and for fountains as they just take up space.

The mayor even pitched the idea of bringing in both, the horticulture department and forest department under a single banner for maintenance of saplings.
IT firms roped in
BBMP commissioner Siddaiah who also chaired the meeting, asked corporators to set an example by making it happen.

"Trees will come up in parks in place of lawns and fountains and saplings will be planted before felling trees to widen roads. Also, sheds will be constructed for security guards in all parks," Shardamma added.
Deputy Mayor S Harish informed that 12 lakes will be identified and software companies like Siemens and Infosys have come forward to beautify and maintain a few. "This lung space will be available for public free of cost," he said.
S Suresh Kumar, minister for law and parliamentary affairs, had recently said that a consultative committee would be formed shortly to discuss issues pertaining to water for the city.
