A trader was attacked and robbed of Rs 9 lakh in broad daylight in Raviva Peth by three unidentified persons. The robbery took place around 12 pm between Jain Mandir and Kasturi Chowk.

Though police officials have recovered the CCTV footage of the incident, it is said to lack clarity. Ashokkumar Devikumar Jain (39), was in his office when robbers attacked him with a sword and an axe. Within few minutes, they snatched the bag containing Rs 9 lakh cash and fled the spot in the four-wheeler they had parked next to Jain’s office.

“When the crime was taking place, one customer tried to stop the robbers and even chased them till the time they fled in a Santro car. Unfortunately no passer-by helped him,” S M Sawant, inspector (Crime) of Khadak police station said. “We noted the registration number of car from the CCTV footage, but it is fake. Secondly, the image of the robbers is unclear.”

Jain, who sustained minor injuries on his hands and head in the attack, was rushed to a private hospital in Guruwar Peth. Doctors said his condition was stable. “The robbers must have observed Jain’s routine for the past few days before hatching the plot. He works on a commission-basis and deals in cash,” Sawant said.
