Champion trainer Pesi Shorff saddled three winners on the trot to make a clean sweep of the trophy races instituted in memory of some famous racing personalities. Shroff started with the third race on the card, the Dr Govind R Gurbaxani Memorial Trophy, sending out Brainstorm (D Probert up) who posted a workman like victory over a mile.

The champion trainer then quickly followed it up with another victory in the Gracias Saldanha Memorial Million by saddling a sensational winner in first-timer Madagascar who, in the hands of S Zervan, virtually covered a street to make sitting ducks out of the two fancied juvenilesl who had taken a runaway lead--Star Inspiration and Riquewihr. Madagascar, by Phoenix Tower out of Taralaya, impressed as the best three-year-old in training at the moment in western India.

Shorff's final win of the treble came in the Y M Chaudhry Memorial Trophy. He sent out Spitfire, another Phoenix Tower progeny, out of Athlone, who moved up form the middle of the field with telling strides and then outclassed his eight rivals to post a stylish victory in the hands of D Probert.
