It’s been just two days since the man who didn’t flinch even once while feeding on Islamophobia, capitalised on voters’ economic anxieties and took advantage of racial tensions became the supreme commander of the USA, and his bigoted supporters have unleashed a hate crime wave across the country.

While the US is no stranger to hate crimes, Trump’s win has made the brash, brasher.
We have reproduced disturbing accounts of some victims, being chronicled by Shaun King, senior justice writer for newspaper NY Daily News, on Twitter. Some of the accounts have been edited for clarity and space. We’ve retained the racial slurs, despite being nauseated by them, to expose the intolerance.
I’m a nurse at a cardiology office and I put a portable heart monitor on an Iranian Muslim woman, who has been a citizen since 1986. They have wires that connect to a black box the size of a cellphone. She asked me if I had a letter or something she could have so that people wouldn’t think it was a bomb and kill her. She said she is more terrified to live here now than when she was a refugee in Iran.
A group of students gathered in the hallway to make a “wall” and did not allow students they felt were of Hispanic descent into their classes and lockers.
I am at Walmart. A woman came up to me and pulled my hijab off and said, “This is not allowed anymore. So go hang yourself with it.”
Noticed a group of 5th graders chanting. “Build a wall!” Clearly, they were parroting hatred they heard at home.

I was on the back of the bus and this group of girls gets on. They look around and look at me and said, “Aren’t you people supposed to be sitting in the back of the bus?” I looked around and saw that there were mainly black and Hispanic people sitting in the middle of the bus. I ask this girl to repeat herself and she says, “Aren’t you supposed to be sitting in the back of the bus now? Like Trump is president!”
As I’m stopped at a gas station this morning, a group of guys yell over: “Time to get out of this country, Apu!”
“Hey Nigger. Pick that up. Keep my streets clean.” At first I wasn’t sure what I heard. Then he repeated it, while his friends egged him on, beckoning me to pick up the ketchup-stained Burger King cup rolling near my feet.
I was at a liquor store to get cigs. And a group of white guys ask me if I can speak English. When I chuckled and ignored them, they followed me and said chinks should get out of the country while we still can because a more “pure America is finally going to come back”. When the clerk asked them to leave, they started laughing and called him bin Laden, and said they’d come back to burn him on a cross.
Today, I was harassed by an older white man who presumed I was Mexican. “I can’t wait till Trump asks us to rape your people and send you back over to the biggest damn wall we’re going to build. Go back to hell, wet back!” After saying all of that, he threw the water in his cup in my face, gave me the middle finger, and ran off. I’ve never been terrified of being a woman and a minority until today.
While pumping gas, I had a vehicle pull up beside me. Out jump four males, all of whom are Caucasian. They proceed to talk about the election and how they are glad that they don’t have to deal with niggers much longer. I just kept quiet. Until one walked over to me and said, “How scared are you, you black bitch. I should just kill you right now, you’re just a waste of air!” I kept my head down. He then proceeds to say, “What, are you deaf or something, you nigger?” Then another guy steps out and shows me his firearm. He says, “Your lucky there’s witnesses. Or else, I’d shoot you right here.”
