Tvisha swims from Mora to Gateway with an eye on English Channel
All of 10, Tvisha Thakkar braved the rough sea to swim from Mora jetty in Raigad district to the Gateway of India here yesterday a distance of 14kms which the Class V student of David English Medium School, Chondhi (Alibag) completed in three hours, 59 minutes and eight seconds.
The youngster may have completed only her first-ever open sea swimming experience, but aims high nevertheless.
“Though I learnt swimming in a pool, I enjoy the challenges of swimming in the open sea. When I grow up, I want to cross the English Channel and compete in other long-distance international events.
“I want to be like my coach (Santosh) Patil sir, who holds the world record of swimming across the Santa Barbara Channel (in 2012) in 2 hours and 12 minutes,” said Tvisha, who cried as she embraced her worried parents immediately after the swim.
