Two Marathi actors killed in road accident
Two eminent Marathi film and television actors were killed when their car met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, police said today.
The car of actors - Anand Abhyankar (50) and Akshay Pendse (33) - who were on way to Mumbai last night, collided with a Pune-bound tempo which lost control and crashed into the lane divider, they said.
Both the actors were declared dead at a hospital where they were rushed to after the accident. Pendse's two-year-old son Pratyush also died in the accident.
The accident took place after a speeding tempo travelling towards Pune hit the barricade and landed in the opposite lane going towards Mumbai and collided against the car.
Abhyankar, Pendse, his wife, their two-year-old son and the driver were travelling in the car. Pendse's wife Deepti is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while the car driver has sustained only minor injuries. Abhyankar was driving the car, when the accident happened.
According to Wadgaon Maval police, the accident took place after a speeding tempo's driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the iron barricade. The speed of the tempo was so high that it broke the barricade and rammed into the car going towards Mumbai. The driver of the tempo is absconding.
The duo were a part of many popular television serials including 'Mala Sasoo Havi'. Abhyankar had starred in several Marathi films like 'Spandan', 'Vastav', 'Pappa Sanga Kunache', 'Anand Abhyankar and Akshay Pendse', 'Balgandharva' and also performed in play 'Kurtyat Sada Tingalam'.
Pendse acted in a few movies including 'Kai Dyayche Bola'.
