A fortnight after a bouncer, working at popular nightclub Trilogy in Juhu, was arrested, the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two more bouncers employed at the club. A sophisticated carbine machine gun, live cartridges and a pistol were recovered from them.

The AEC officers, in a joint effort with the Mangalore police, had earlier arrested two bouncers working at the same nightspot for their role in the firing at a builder’s office in Mangalore on March 10. Cops said all four accused worked for underworld gangster Ravi Pujari.

Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch officers nabbed Deepak Yeshwant Padval (27), a resident of Charkop, and Amol Anil Sawant (29), a resident of Kandivli, on Sunday night.

“We have seized one carbine machine gun, two magazines, eight live cartridges, a pistol, one magazine and five live cartridges from the accused,” said Sudhir Dalvi, police inspector, AEC.

The police said the accused were working for main accused Kamal Singh Vijay Singh Rajput (30), also a bouncer at Trilogy, who was arrested by Crime Branch officers and handed over to the Mangalore police a few weeks ago.

“Kamal Singh handed them the weapons and he works for gangster Ravi Pujari. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain why the weapons were brought into the city,” said Sadanand Date, JCP, Crime Branch.

Police suspect that the bouncers, who used to work at the club on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday nights, passed information about the rich patrons, who frequented the club, to Pujari.

“Nobody really takes Pujari’s threats seriously and hence don’t pay up. These guns were brought to threaten them,” said a Crime Branch officer, requesting anonymity.
