Bankura: Two persons have been killed by elephants in separate places of Bankura district since on Tuesday night, forest officials said.


In the first incident, 72-year-old Gopal Lohar was trampled by a pachyderm in Ramharipur jungle on Wednesday, Mejia circle range officer Tarun Bandopadhyay said. On hearing his cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and rushed him to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.


In a separate incident, body of 27-year-old Ashish Mondal was found last night near a pond under Kanchanpur beat where an elephant had been spotted.


Forest personnel confirmed that the injuries were inflicted by an elephant, DFO, Bankura North Pinaki Mitra said.
